Have you read Meaghan Garvey's book "Midwestern Death Trip" yet? It's coming up quickly on my TBR list. Truly excited about it!

I started blogging in 2004 when my kid was four months old. I've done some form of it since. Substack's been my platform of choice for five years or so, but there's a lot I miss about the RSS days. Might be time to revisit and see how much HTML I remember. Is it still a mommy blog when the kid's a senior in art school?

Tree of Smoke was so good. I’ll check out DJ’s other books, thanks for the reminder.

I appreciate admitting to the hours of brain-slugging - I feel very seen. I am still gonna admire you for reading a book, though, these days even picking one up deserves at least tepid applause. Have you read Johnson’s “The Name of the World”?

More novella than novel, it’s very quiet and cozy in a grief-stricken, that’s-not-a-good-idea kind of way.

Denis Johnson…you had me at Richard Thompson playing a Strat!

I've been using NetNewsWire since the early days with Dave Winer. For a while I moved to Google Reader, then Feedly, Reeder, and ReadKit and I finally went back to NetNewsWire. I subscribe to your blog there.

The last time I saw you post about html/old web stuff, I made a little note to myself to dig into it, and that was a while ago, so this time I've really gotta get off my ass and figure this thing out! Thank you for spreading the good word. And it's about time I read more Denis Johnson, too. Of all the films I watched in 2025, Train Dreams is the one I replay in my mind the most.

Forgot the other thing I was going to mention: Jason from Aquarium Drunkard has a Substack as well called Range and Basin, and it is always a good read.

I read Tree of Smoke over the summer. Damn, it's such a harrowing book at times and so beautiful in others. I have Train Dreams on my shelf but haven't had a chance to read it yet. I bought it after watching the poignant film adaptation from last year.

You're such a great writer, Spencer. If I were still the Editor of Your Flesh (long gone in print), I would've begged you to write book reviews. I would've begged you to write anything. Thanks for the recommendations! Hugs to you and your Mom.

Anyone have recommendations for a RSS app that isn't Apple only?

But RT does play a Strat?!

I recently had a look at my feedly for the first time in years and was so sad to see almost nothing I used to follow exists anymore.

Dang :/

Every Substack has an RSS feed!

I know! I might set it up soon so I don’t get lost in the algorithmic nightmare.
