A friend from High School went into the Navy and the Submarine Division (not correct nomenclature…I don’t know it)…I know guys in subs call the Navy personnel in ships “Skimmers”….not a term of endearment. He was once in NYC for some big ship gathering ( that type of thing causes me anxiety…”Hey! Let’s put a lot of ships and personnel in a small area.”) anyway, we did get to tour his subs and a boat or two…42nd St. was still 42nd street in the early 80s, so he and his mates were eager to compare the Philippines and South Korea with the good ol’ USA! Strange days!
I enjoyed reading this, Spencer. My dad is a sub vet (USS Halfbeak) and he and his pals just had their annual reunion 2 months ago. I've been lucky to go to one before and oh the stories you hear of life on the sub!
My uncle was a radioman on the Torsk on its maiden war party during WWII. He loved being a submariner
This is why I love the internet. ❤️
I think you may have a song somewhere in your post….
And I’ll shudder, over and over again, thinking about the prospect of living underseas for 75 days.
Dying by implosion.
Saving Axis victims by firing steam-powered propeller bombs at foreign sailors, maybe one out of our twenty-one chances finding a mark.
By shitting in an aluminum garbage chute.
By sleeping under red light while other people heave torpedoes with block and tackle inches below me.

Nice job on the drums for Waxahatchee in Perth, West Oz… such a great gig ❤️🤘
Subs……….i prefer the edible kind…..less life threatening ……but perhaps not? Definitely less claustrophobic ….
Enjoy your visit to Oz…the Tiv is a nice venue in Brisvegas!
The algorithm at its best.
Whoa Nellie!
