As Freud said on his deathbed, “physics, schmizics, so long as you love your mother!”

No. Actually, I just made that up. But I loved reading this, not just as a psychologist young enough and old enough to be considered “mid career,“ but because reading your impressions of yourself in light of these ideas is like reading a younger, more colorful, modern-day, William James!

In any event, in my opinion, the only single unifying theory about everything is that love sits at the center; I know of nothing more parsimonious to explain our existence.

Keep it coming, Spencer!

Great, something else to worry about.

"But I think all we ever get, all we deserve, are glimpses through the prism." Well said.

(I kept reading 'Microtubules' as Microtubbies, ha. Then, this, in your last footnote, "free willy behavior" -- cracked me up.) But seriously, Spencer, you have such a gift for comprehending and clearly explaining complex ideas. This is fascinating, and I knew nothing about it. Now I do. Thanks!

Zen and the Art .. really messed me up for a while. Not as bad as the author, for sure, but still.

So did working on Free Willy film open me to this reality?..😜

Not sure I can wrap my brain around the theories... but the NOMEANSNO --?! I'm ON IT!

Glimpses through the prism, indeed. ✨ Thanks, Spencer. Deep and cool stuff.

Resist or ride (surf)? Is there a choice? Interesting stuff, and happy to know you have the curiosity and capacity to explore this. I’m a little older than your parents, and I think no longer have the bandwidth to go deep into this science—even if it explains everything we are. Another commenter said “understanding the understood”. We are getting ready to go down to South Loop to sit for our grandchildren—the absolute best tubule-ticklers! Good stuff, Spencer, enjoy your breakfast!

Another glimpse into understanding the ununderstood ( if that’s a word worth understanding….or even a word at all!)

Good to stretch our neurons…. difficult to clutch onto and absorb!!🌿

Well this was fun and unexpected! Have you read Awe: The new science of everyday wonder and how it can transform your life by Dacher Keltner? It's resonant of what you said here, and very digestible!

Also, this got me thinking about Soulboom by Rainn Wilson and the art of Alex Gray (particularly Sacred Mirrors). Have you checked any of these out in your path to discover why music is just so forking medicinal? 🤔💜

Thanks for the info, I enjoyed how it got me thinking.

Thanks! I have something new to read about this evening….what are your thoughts on time travel and black holes, portals, etc.?

Fascinating… you might be interested in my friend Sebastian Junger’s new book, “In My Time of Dying.” Lots of high level physics mixed with a solid, real-life exploration of how and why we’re all here.

Hey Spencer, your essay about ORCH OR reminded me of this Woody Allen piece:

The Universe is Expanding from Annie Hall.

So what is the point, right?

Just curious what vehicle was capable of taking two 1970s aluminum canoes to the water! Those are some classic boats!

I just found “complete picture”…I like it! Is Sammy in all the usual places to look, does he have a website?
