Spencer......thank you for voicing what I’m feeling in my head and heart so eloquently. Your words are so aligned with my own comprehension of the situation from afar both geographically and personally. Your words and feelings express truth as I see it about this situation. The humanitarian situation is beyond comprehension. The babies. The children. The youth. The adults. The elderly. The sheer waste of life and human potential. Thank you for your measured words and observations. Cuddle Sima’s little one.....a lot. In her eyes lies the future. We have to hold on to the good, the pure and the wonderful in the face of these torrid times. Big love to you and all your family 🙏
I’ve thought very often of the ideas of supremacy and human hierarchies -- what we are taught is valuable and worthy, how we sort our shared resources, who leads and who follows. Is it inevitable that humans must construct societies of exclusion, of hoarded power, rationed opportunities, and bigotry? Must we just keep fucking it all up forever?
I suspect this is the case, but I’m not hopeless. Most people want peace, safety, opportunity, and a sense of community. Sometimes they will come together and take down those who commit atrocities in their names.
This is deserving of a far wider audience mate - your clear-eye perspectives grounded in decency and humanity are in stark contrast to those we hoped were entrusted to display the same qualities.
The zeitgeist in recent years is some kind of tsunami of negativity and white-hot "othering". Things will change - who knows when - but they will change. Thx for being one of the candles in the darkness.
Thank you, Spencer. I have been conflicted by how Israel’s attacks have become so devastating to, as you say, ordinary Palestinians. I was truly disturbed by the Hamas attack a month ago and agreed in some form of retaliation by Israel--but this has escalated into a full-blown annihilation of innocent people. Enjoy your time on the west coast--sorry I’m not there to catch a show. 💜
Thank you for your thoughtful words Spencer. Keep the light and let the music bring you joy, if only for the moment. It's in times like these when just a moment of joy must be held close. Let the baby fart carry you away!
Thank you. It is devastating to witness all the levels of awful. I'm trying to educate myself and listen to those voices working together. It's far too easy with social media to veer into reactionary outrage instead of solution based activism.
Thank you for the reading list. On Instagram I've learned so much from Dana Aliya Levinson.
Be well and enjoy the tour. With Sammy in Israel I've been thinking about the Tweedys. Sending ❤️
Thank you for saying exactly what I've been feeling. I've felt sick from the past month. I'm disgusted by the antisemitism I've seen and at the same time appalled by Israel killing innocent Palestinian children as well as innocent Israelis being killed and kidnapped. Everything is wrong there.
Thank you, Spencer, for stepping into this space that has seemed so vacant these past weeks, and giving eloquent words to so many peoples’ unexpressed thoughts. Thank you also for the additional resources you provided.
Thank you for sharing this, Spencer. It's all so painful and overwhelming. "appreciation for people who preserve their own tenderness, and who remain in service to others" -- I see and appreciate this in you. I hope you enjoy yourself, your friends and that sweeeee bebe on this tour. :)
Great piece Spence. You’re a great writer and summed up a lot of what I think we’re all feeling here xoxo
Love and respect kid, you are a wonderful human.✊💛
I agree wholeheartedly. ❤️❤️

Hang in there. You are helping.
We can hope Marianne

Find a more appropriate venue for your hateful blather. You present as truly an idiot can be.
Invite this man to your passover seder...he needs some love

Thank you for being able to write so eloquently about social justice for everyone. I had tears in my eyes as I read your message.

It's confusing being a progressive Jewish born human. Thanks for helping to clarify a difficult history, and sharing resources
Oye, get this goy a latke
