I choked up reading this, not only because it's the last, but at your wise words, how you see 'playing and watching music as two of the best possible things that humans can do to each other,' a chance to feel okay, not just to escape, but to become a little bit better at alleviating some of the pain in this world. The Wilmington show definitely was a 'soul experience' for me! Thank you Waxahatchee and Wilco. And Spencer… don't ever stop writing. Reading you is a gift as great as the music.❤
Loved getting to see you play 5 times over 8 days. These shows have been wonderful and affirming. There’s nowhere else on the planet quite like being at a show, some kind of blend of cathartic community and ecstatic escapism into melodies and rhythms— it’s the best!
It was great to see both Waxahatchee and Wilco in Charlotte and Asheville. Admittedly, I didn’t know much about Waxahatchee before the live shows (I need to get out more). But I’m a converted Waxahatchee fan for sure! Such great love and camaraderie on stage. I’m already stocking up on the album catalog.
I was at this show with my own son, so had some Dad vibes going like Jeff no doubt. Got there early and managed to snag a spot on the front row in front of Nels. Little did I know how much I’d also enjoy watching Colin play from that same spot on the stage. My favorite moment was the “hot swap” when you took the kit from Glenn during California Stars. You both looked like it was a lot of fun. Thanks to all for a great show.
Drummer or writer, I'll go where you go. This was really great to read, the whole way. Tupelo/Wilco changed my life once when i was wide-eyed and open in my early 20's, and Waxahatchie/Lenderman/Morby (thanks Brad Cook) cracked open my brain again when I needed a kick in the pants. Please keep this good going. I'll do my part. See you at Shoalsfest in October.
Spencer! I don't often comment because, well, it's just a pleasure to read your observations and enjoy the moment, and why muck that up. But can I say something? Please don't apologize for voicing gratitude in what you do. You bring so much joy and love and significant moments to so many people across the world while being on the road, pulled away from home, family, friends... I can only imagine how grueling that can be. I'm thrilled for you that you can all travel together as a group, and enjoy playing music together. I'm certain that's a rare opportunity — why not celebrate it. Big love for that. -- Oh. And I know Liam was with you all along, but my dream last night involved hanging out with Liam, having a cool conversation, walking along. It was nice. ;-)
The joy I received from that show last night was immeasurable. As a father, seeing you lovingly smile at your dad when he sang with y’all was tear inducing. I’m talking water works! Thank you!
Y’all really really Kicked it in Houston and I’m happy to say it was my first time seeing you Live, and what a Joy you are! What a Joy your writing has ALWAYS been for as long as you have been writing and sending it out to the ether.
I think about gratitude and when you asks us all to send out a Joke for your dear compenerõ who was so ill. The idea as a friend you wanted to see him smile
I’m so proud of you, as a distant virtual No a or something, keeping you and Casey and of Course your Mom and Dad and lil Bro in my bubble of good thoughts and love as you
Send out the words, images, and music that is the glue to this crazy kombucha that’s life.
I really enjoyed following along here and at the Nashville and Chattanooga shows. It’s hard to express how much I appreciate the infusion of joy the shows provided (without cheapening it, of course). Much needed! Thanks for making music and sharing your words. 🙌🏽
After catching y'all at DPAC, I made the drive over to AVL from Durham for this show, and I'm so glad I did. It was a really special evening. I agree with you about the importance of live music in these perilous times. Keep on keepin' on.

Felt like I was there, your writing is so evocative. Thank you, Spencer.
Thank you for letting us into your amazing world. ✨✨✨
