A thoughtful, sweet remembrance. I am always so appreciative of those rare people who are good listeners, as you noted Patrick was, and who keep their minds and hearts open through their lives.
I am happy for you that you had this experience and that you were able to see this man so clearly despite your difference in ages. It speaks volumes about your openness and perceptiveness. As our young selves get cloaked in grey we often feel unseen, even though our youth burns bright inside.
Now I think I’ll go check out what this man sounded like. 🤠
I’ll have to check out Lavender Country. Thanks for writing this piece about Mr. Haggerty, Spencer. I’m sure it was a blessing to be a part of his band and to call him friend. Write on!
I remember learning about "Lavender Country" not so long ago and looking for stories about Patrick, finding few. This man's life! As a "screaming Marxist b*tch" of my own sort, what I did read was a role model worthy. Glad you shared this piece with all of us. Cheers.
Thank you so much for this you truly have a wonderful way with words that I find very soothing. There is a nice rhythm to it but I guess that would make sense wouldn’t it. Speaking of rhythm I just had a silly question run across me. What is your favorite rudiment ? Mine would be believe it or not the Paradiddle. They are easy but not too easy, you can use them in every genre of music, there is so much you can do to expand on them. I’m just taking a guess here but Steve Gadd must really enjoy Paradiddles. There I’ve stated my case for the good ole Paradiddle lol what are your thoughts please.
I’m surprised to hear you say that you do not practice rudiments that much because you seem so well versed in them. Not surprised on the accents on the triplet as I always was impressed with your feel for triplets and doubles. Whatever it is you practice keep it up cause it sure is working. Anytime you would like to share more of what you practice please feel free to let us know. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one interested. Thanks for responding.
Great read. This was all new to me. I went straight to YouTube and discovered some incredible music, new to my ears. I love experiencing new things. Thanks.

I’ve never been a great rudiment practice-r… but I love LLRLRR. Also doubles with accents on the triplet! (L)LRRLL(R)RLLRR
Thanks for your kind words!

How fortunate for you that you got to play with him!
I’ll just say Amen to Marianne’s comment. I liked it very much. And I like you even more than before, Jeff. You’re Good People. 💞
Sorry Spencer, I called you Jeff in the comment. Anyway, I love you both, you’re both Good People!💞
What a beautiful tribute! I consider myself very lucky to have seen one of the shows at the Hideout. There was a lot of love in the room that night.
Thanks for this beautiful tribute :)
