Aw, Spencer, you’re the best! Thanks so much for the update on Dad. It’s been painful to watch him hurting. He did a heroic job of getting through shows without most people noticing during his performances, but the way he limped offstage was tough to watch. I’ve never been so relieved to see someone undergo surgery! I’m sure he’s going to approach post op physical therapy with his usual discipline, and I’m looking forward to seeing him bust a move onstage soon!

Two knee replacements in..bionic woman..so sympatico with dad..almost done with his book and so many of those songs shaped my life too, and will discuss later, but chapter that grabbed me was one on The Beatles (yeah, saw them 3 times in Chicago..only time I ever went to Comiskey)...part about demos and outtakes being treasures brought to mind a cd a friend sent me of a board recording in Indianopolis...their harmonies were astounding!!! In an era long before monitors or elaborate sound systems...I’m sure it was more gut response honed by years of playing together...I’m sure they couldn’t hear each other. Now to get out from a week of ice induced house arrest..

Hey Spencer,

I'm excited for a new TWEEDY BAND LP! Super news. I wish your dad a swift and uneventful (other than healing and strength and less pain) which are guess are big enough events. So anyway, as one who has had four hip surgeries, (two replacements and two revisions), starting at age 39, it gets better. And he'll be thinking maybe, "I should have done this sooner!" I'm 70 now and both hips are great!

Thanks for the update! I hope your dad finds his new hip as life- altering as I did. The relief is instantaneous as soon as the anesthesia wears off. Granted, the first 2 weeks of recovery are challenging, but the sweet relief of the bone on bone, grinding pain is miraculous. So happy for him.

So glad your dad’s finally getting new parts! As the recipient of two new components (knees), I know that pre-surgical anticipatory fear, and the hospital amnesia. Glad you’re all moving past it. New parts are a damn miracle of science. Let the stage-diving commence! (No, please don’t.)

Aw thanks for giving us the inside scoop. Your dad’s a super trooper! (Only slight reference to ABBA intended.) 💖😚 💪🏻

It’s hard to imagine what he has endured....while still rocking our collective socks off. Hope he heals & recovers well, and experiences many years of pain-free enjoyment in life... as he has long provided us. 🎶✌🏻🙏🏻

Thank you Spoonstir! So encouraging to hear the recovering is going well. Especially after feeling your phrase “congenitally sharp, cartilage-wearing femurs”!

Amazing what they are doing with hips these days! Back at it in no time!

Hi Spencer,

Off topic, but since the Mayor of Chicago called for a cease fire in Gaza (hopefully covered more areas in the Middle East), I was curious of your thoughts on the war between Israel and what is left of Gaza/Hamas…also I’d love to hear Liam’s thoughts since I believe he lived in the Middle East. Anyway you look at it, it’s very sad. Is there a number of Palestinian's needed to be killed to offset 10/7/23? Should the Palestinian’s have access to safe water and food as well as medical care? I encourage anyone wanting to know more about the Middle East’s history post WWII to do some research, The 6 Day War (a preemptive strike by Israel against Egypt, Syria, and Jordan…destroying each countries Air Force). I’m just curious of your view, if you wish to share. And let me apologize now, for attaching to you Dad’s recovery post, but since today the Mayor of Chicago called for a ceasefire, as well as you campaigning for Mayor Johnson….I’d be interested in hearing your view. Regards,

S

Happy your dad finally had his hip replaced. I had mine done almost two years ago after about 3 years of torture. Although I’m almost 68 I feel like I did in my 40’s. By Spring he’ll really start to feel like those Uncle Tupe days, probably no stage dives until late summer though.✊💛
