We’re up on the rail and can’t wait! And ps, thanks for the David Handelman shoutout. He was a wonderful human and we were all shocked by his passing. Thank you as always for your incredible example of humanity.
You have the ability to see the magnificent things in people. And then express how you feel about it. It’s really nice. Thank you for the words about David. I shared it with his daughter Nancy.
David would’ve deeply appreciated the shoutout. He cared for your family so much, all the Wilco fan family, and his own family with, as you noted, an unflagging enthusiasm. He had the pro writer’s fine sense of observation: he paid attention, and used that gift to personalize little gifts, send interesting articles or recommendations, and was always facilitating bringing like-minded people together.
Sorry to hear of you and Casey’s recent losses of loved ones……everyone who touches our lives leaves an imprint and touches many more….. their stories live on through our writing and talking of them….both these gentlemen sound like great inspiration!!
Love your writing. Keep it up and happy birthday to the folks! How lucky to have folks like yours….more inspiration on a daily basis from our near and dear hey !🙌💖
We drove over from motown to see you since we couldn't make the April concert here in Detroit. You guys sounded great love your technique on the skins. Your seemingly intuitive playing reminds me of another favorite of mine Jay Bellerose. Katie and Katherine's harmonies were perfect and the mix was amazing for such an open venue and the bands immense talent and musianship was felt by all who were so fortunate to attend. Looking to hearing your dad and Mavis on Colbert, happy bday to your dad
Beautiful recognitions, Spencer. As commented over on le Starship, I just dropped my child at school in Ohio and was 'whoa-ing' about what is presented in rural civilization, goods+services oasis-wise Still contemplating it all. We listened to 50 Songs I Dram as we drove about. Casey, your grandfather was an innovator! I'm going to try his tap-tap time to go move, in your honor. Will be back here re: Freedy Johnston's mural in Western Kansas.
I resonate with your appreciation for your & Casey’s sentient beings this post 💞
Your sweetness comes thru in your writing, You shared your sweetness at Solid Sound during interview with your Dad in MassMoca, I was in the balcony & watched & heard you 2 glow, bittersweet What Your Mama is going thru, sending my favorites: Compassion, Peace, Wisdom & Ease the Tweedy & Co way….☺️
Sad about David. Casey's grandfather sounds amazing. That Jeff/Mavis performance is so good! And Bell's is excellent! Baseball Project has played there twice. We love the vibe in K'zoo. And the Gibson smokestack! Smokestack lightning?

Gosh, I appreciate you, Spencer.
Thanks for the lovely tribute to dear David, Spencer. I shared the Substack with his wife, Syd. Im sure she will deeply appreciate it.

Sorry for your losses.
Talking of trees I'm part way through 'The Overstory' by Richard Powers. Epic. Recommended.
Loved it too!
Such a great book!

Thank you for reminding me to give more shout-outs to those integral to my emotional well-being (parents are rad)…safe travels!!
Love you Spencer!
Oh no! I did not know about David. That is sad news.
Thanks for these weekly missives, Spencer. They're wonderful.
