You reveal yourself as a remarkably self-aware and humble observer of our humanity when you speculate, “ And yet… the more I think about Jonathan’s lyrics, the less sure I am that my distaste for the memory isn’t just a sneaky trick my mind is playing to ease the pain of longing for it.”

"...the more I think about Jonathan’s lyrics, the less sure I am that my distaste for the memory isn’t just a sneaky trick my mind is playing to ease the pain of longing for it".

That phrase, with its serpentine double/triple negative that nonetheless resolves perfectly, reminds me of another line from this band I like... "a gift given accidentally when we're not sure we're not alone"

The song is tremendous. Love the instrumentation and the production. Love, love, love it.

The one thing I don’t miss about childhood summers is June bugs stuck to the screen door...oh that constant clicking! They oddly don’t exist out here..replaced by stink beetles...yuck...

Ha! June bugs! More like “dumb” bugs. They buzzed around the light poles where we hung out on warm nights.

What an absolutely gorgeous song, listened to it on Bandcamp and Elizabeth's got that growl that can grab you once in a while in the lyrics, beautifully done. Never thought much about it before, but most of the haunting memories are summer feelings from childhood into adolescence that leave us with longings for some of the past along with not wanting to ever experience most of that ever again! Thanks for helping us realize this!

These are beautiful musings, Spencer. Summer is such a state of mind...in season and out. Bask in it while it's happening, yearn for it when it's not.

Elizabeth is such a major talent & a sweetheart. I love this combination of your talents!

A car full of wannabe Gidgits (including me) sweeping down the Gold Coast highway at dawn with surfboards piled high on top, dogs hanging out the back windows tongues lolling, and perfect little green waves rolling enticingly ont the sands at Greenmount beach ..........I was still a child straight out of high school......thanks Spencer 🏄🏽‍♀️

Love this version! The sound is as haunting and taunting as the words.

Your thoughts always get me thinking and questioning my own thoughts, looking at what I thought I knew in a whole new way. That's a powerful gift you have! Don't lose it and thank you for using it here

Fabulous cover. This song, for me, is the embodiment of saudade. I had an unexpected memory flash of my own dusty summer ankles too

Talk about sensory overload. I could almost smell honeysuckle on the breeze. I loved this version so much, I just bought it and added to my favorite playlist. P.S. As kids, we used to collect cicada shells in paper lunch sacks. Hmmm. Wonder what happened to them. xoxo

Beautiful performance. Thank you for posting! I will never forget Jonathan’s magical, mic-free acapella performance at SFF while the power was down.

This was my introduction to Elizabeth and I was blown away. This is one of my favorite Jonathan songs and she was able to make it her own while retaining the feeling of the original.
